Focus on all-solid-state battery -Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment

Solid state battery is not a new concept. It appeared as early as the 1970s. Solid state battery was commercialized around 1991. At present, the miniature lithium battery used in earphones is a kind of solid state battery. At that time, solid state battery appeared in the form of thin film battery, and the reason why it was not popularized at that time was that solid state thin film battery had the disadvantages of small capacity and high cost, but its commercial application also proved that solid state battery technology was still feasible.

With the gradual popularization of emerging applications such as new energy vehicles and the Internet of Things, especially new energy vehicles, which have high requirements on mileage, safety, charging time and other aspects, battery has become the key. As the traditional liquid lithium battery continues to approach its application limit, solid state battery gradually enters the public eye.

The traditional liquid lithium battery is called a rocking chair battery by the scientific community because of its charge and discharge principle. The two ends of the rocking chair are the positive and negative poles of the battery, and the middle is the liquid electrolyte. The lithium electrons move back and forth at both ends of the rocking chair, completing the charging and discharging of the battery during the process of lithium electrons from the positive pole to the negative pole. In this process, there are many potential safety hazards, such as overcharging, easy heating of the battery, resulting in electrolyte gas expansion, decomposition, spontaneous combustion and even explosion.(Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment)

The charge and discharge principle of solid battery is the same as that of liquid battery. The only difference is that its electrolyte is solid. It has many advantages over liquid electrolyte:

1) High energy density. After the solid electrolyte is used in the solid state battery, the graphite anode embedded with lithium should not be used, but the metal lithium should be directly used as the anode, which can reduce the consumption of the anode material and improve the energy density of the whole battery.

2) Small size. The diaphragm and electrolyte in the traditional liquid lithium battery account for nearly 25% of the total battery mass. After using solid electrolyte, the distance between the positive and negative electrodes can be reduced to a minimum of more than ten microns, which greatly reduces the thickness and quality of the battery.

3) Higher security. Because the electrolyte of traditional batteries is liquid, a series of potential safety problems described above may occur under high temperature conditions, but solid state batteries do not have these problems and have higher safety.

In fact, solid state battery is not a new concept. It appeared as early as the 1970s. In 1991, solid state battery was commercialized.

At present, many countries and regions in the world have invested in research on solid-state batteries, especially on all-solid-state batteries. At the 8th International Summit Forum on Battery New Energy Industry held in October, many domestic battery companies introduced their research and development status in the field of solid-state batteries, as well as the opportunities and challenges they are facing in this field.

Ganfeng Lithium (01772) believes that solid-state batteries can well meet the development needs of new energy vehicles in the future. At present, they have cooperated with the Ningbo Institute of Materials of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and have a relatively long-term and comprehensive technical accumulation in solid-state battery technology, especially in the industrialization of solid-state batteries. The battery developed by the company has passed the comprehensive evaluation of several authoritative third parties and has been applied to vehicle enterprises. In addition, Suzhou Qingtao, Beijing Weilan New Energy and other companies also lead the world in the research and development of solid-state batteries.
