Experimental research shows that, as a new anode material for lithium ion batteries, silicon carbon anode can play a more significant role in improving the energy density of batteries than graphite anode. The Action Plan for Promoting the Development of Automotive Power Battery Industry issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China and other four ministries and commissions proposed that the specific energy of new lithium ion power batteries in China would exceed 300Wh/kg by 2020 and reach 500Wh/kg by 2025. It is difficult for traditional graphite materials to meet this requirement. Data shows that in 2018, the domestic consumption of silicon carbon composite materials reached 2000-3000 tons, a year-on-year increase of about twice. It is predicted that the market space of domestic silicon carbon anode materials will reach 5 billion yuan in 2020.

From the domestic situation, battery enterprises such as Ningde Times, Lishen Battery, Guoxuan Hi Tech, BYD, Bike Power, Wanxiang A123, and Micromacro Power are accelerating the R&D and trial production of silicon carbon anode system. In terms of material enterprises, Betterley's carbon silicon cathode has entered Tesla's supply chain, supporting some anode materials for Panasonic's power battery cells; Shanshan Shares, Jiangxi Zichen, etc. have small trial production capacity; In addition, Snow Industry, Xingcheng Graphite, Shanshan Co., Ltd., Jiangxi Zhengtuo, Chuangya Power, Dalian Lichang, etc. are also actively promoting the industrialization of silicon carbon anode.

It is understood that as early as October 2016, the project of "Industrialization Technology Development of the New Generation of Lithium Ion Power Battery" jointly declared by Ningde Times and the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences started to develop a lithium ion power cell with a high nickel ternary material as the positive electrode and a silicon carbon composite as the negative electrode. Not long ago, Ouyang Minggao, an academician of the CAS Member, introduced that the specific energy of the high nickel ternary positive electrode and silicon carbon negative electrode batteries developed in the Ningde era has reached 304Wh/kg and will be put on the market this year.
