Technology and market jointly contribute to lithium battery -Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment

At the recently held Forum on Advanced Technology and Application of Power and Energy Storage Batteries, Chen Chunmei, Director of the Automotive Division of the Equipment Industry Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, revealed that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is currently accelerating the drafting and preparation of the Guiding Opinions on Promoting the Development of the Automotive Power Lithium Ion Battery Industry. The Opinions will make it clear that by 2025, further measures will be taken to accelerate the construction of the National Power Lithium Ion Battery Innovation Center, strengthen the upgrading of lithium ion batteries and the research and development of new system batteries, promote the coordinated development of the industrial chain, strengthen the quality inspection of product safety, and improve the management business system.(Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment)

"It can be said that the issuance of the Opinions will provide a clear path for the future development of the lithium ion battery industry." Xiong Baiqing, vice president of Beijing General Research Institute of Nonferrous Metals, said that in recent years, with the explosive growth of production and sales of new energy vehicles, the demand for lithium ion batteries, especially power lithium ion batteries, has continued to rise, bringing great opportunities for the development of the lithium ion battery industry.

According to the data of China Automobile Industry Association, in the first half of this year, the production and sales of new energy vehicles in China reached 177000 and 170000 respectively, up 125% and 126.9% year on year respectively. According to the prediction data of Guolian Automobile Power Lithium Ion Battery Research Institute, by 2020, the output of new energy vehicles in China will reach 2 million, and the demand for power lithium ion batteries will reach 100 billion watt hours.

The good market has not only brought about an increase in the demand for lithium ion batteries, but also promoted the continuous improvement of the efficiency of power lithium ion batteries. Xiong Baiqing introduced that 10 years ago, it took 20 kg of batteries to load 1 kilowatt hour of electricity; Now, it only takes 9-10 kilograms of batteries to load 1 kilowatt hour of electricity; By 2020, the weight of the battery will be reduced to 4-5kg when 1 kilowatt hour of electricity is loaded. "The weight of the battery will be reduced, and the anode materials, cathode materials, manufacturing processes and other raw materials for battery manufacturing will be reduced, as well as the cost. Today, the production cost of the battery has dropped from 5-6 yuan per watt hour 10 years ago to 1.5 yuan."

The cost reduction is mainly due to the continuous progress of technology. However, compared with some developed countries, China's lithium-ion battery industry is still facing problems such as short battery life and poor environmental adaptability. In particular, lithium-ion battery companies are very small, scattered and disorderly, and blind investment and repeated construction are increasingly prominent. According to statistics, at present, there are more than 200 lithium-ion battery companies in China, and the actual sales volume of the largest company is only several billion watt hours per year.

"The technical demand of the lithium-ion battery industry is developing rapidly, and it will go backwards without innovation." Xiong Baiqing believes that because there is no super large lithium-ion battery company in China and innovation resources are relatively dispersed, the economic scale, profitability and R&D capacity of most companies are far from those of foreign companies.

Fortunately, a series of favorable policies have injected strong impetus into the development of the lithium ion battery industry. It is understood that since the new energy vehicle development goal was put forward in 2012, China has successively introduced policies and measures such as financial subsidies, right of way priority, license plate opening, etc. The Made in China 2025 explicitly proposes to continue to support the development of electric vehicles and fuel vehicles. As the heart of new energy vehicles, the lithium ion battery industry has also been highly valued.
