Lithium battery high energy density and high power density technology -Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment

In recent years, China's electric vehicle industry has developed rapidly due to the dual "favor" of policies and markets, but electric vehicles also have their own worries, such as short range, long charging time, low cycle times and outstanding safety problems. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles have become another driving force for local governments to promote new energy vehicles due to their long range, short hydrogenation time and cleaner environmental protection. At present, Shanghai, Guangdong, Shaanxi Xi'an, Jiangsu Rugao, Zhejiang Taizhou, Hubei Wuhan, Shanxi Datong and other places have successively introduced relevant policies or measures to support the development of the fuel cell industry. However, hydrogen fuel cells do not have their own pain points, such as the high cost of hydrogen production, storage and transportation, large investment in the construction of hydrogen refueling stations, and slow progress in the research and development of hydrogen fuel cell technology, which have been puzzling the development of hydrogen fuel vehicles. Other fuel cells with higher cost performance and economic benefits have also been the focus of enterprises and scientific research institutions.(Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment)

Recently, learned from the Chinese Academy of Sciences that the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has made new progress in the research of composite power supply of fuel cells and supercapacitors, achieving both high power density and high energy density of chemical power supply, providing a new research idea for developing the next generation of chemical power supply with high specific energy characteristics.

It is understood that the fuel cell has a high energy density, but its power density is low due to the slow kinetic process of liquid fuel electro oxidation and electro reduction; The power density of supercapacitors is high, but limited by the specific capacity of electrode active materials, their energy density is low. At present, most chemical power sources cannot have both high power density and high energy density at the same time. The team of the institute innovatively designed and constructed a new type of double effect electrode based on the pseudocapacitor material polyaniline and the electrocatalytic material Pt/C (cathode) or PtRu/C (anode), thereby building a composite power supply of in-situ direct methanol fuel cell and supercapacitor. The composite power supply realizes the in-situ self charging of the supercapacitor by virtue of the oxidation/reduction state transition of polyaniline between the cathode (oxygen electro reduction reaction) and anode (methanol electro oxidation reaction) potentials. Thanks to the fast pseudocapacitance discharge characteristics of polyaniline, the pulse discharge performance of the composite power supply has been greatly improved. The power density of the single cell can reach 4kW/kg, which is more than 80% higher than that of the traditional methanol fuel cell. At the same time, the continuous supply of methanol ensures the high energy density of the composite power supply.

The coupling mechanism between pseudocapacitance and electrochemical reaction explained in this work provides a new research idea for the next generation of high specific property chemical power supply. Relevant research results were published on ACSEnergyLetters.

Although hydrogen fuel cell vehicles have attracted the attention of many automobile enterprises, which focus on hydrogen fuel cell vehicle research and development, there are also some automobile enterprises who are willing to make heavy deposits on the research and development of other fuel cell vehicle technologies. In August this year, Siris Power announced that it has established a partnership with Nissan. In the future, the two sides will jointly develop fuel cells that can efficiently generate energy using traditional fuels such as natural gas and sustainable fuels such as biogas, ethanol or hydrogen. The project was also supported by the British government with a funding of 35 million pounds. It is reported that Siris Power is the developer of SteelCell's low-cost solid oxide fuel cells. Siris Power said that SteelCell solid oxide fuel cells are made of materials with large sales volume and widely available, which are cost-effective, powerful and scalable. The cooperation project with Nissan involves designing, building, testing and displaying the solid oxide fuel cell stack produced by Siris Power Company, and deploying it in the fuel cell modules designed by Nissan and applicable to various efficient fuel types such as biofuels.
