Not long ago, Dawning Co., Ltd. announced that the company decided to invest 35 million yuan to form a joint venture company with Neusoft Reach and Samsung SDI to produce and sell new energy vehicle power lithium battery packs and chargers. It can be seen from the announcement that the joint venture does not involve core technologies such as battery R&D and production. It is understandable for automobile companies to form joint ventures. However, if they do not master the core technology of batteries, my country's new energy vehicles may repeat the mistakes of traditional automobile joint ventures.

At present, most of the new energy vehicles of multinational car companies use Japanese and Korean batteries. For example, Japan's Panasonic supplies TSLA, Samsung SDI supplies Audi, and LG Chem supplies Mercedes-Benz. But in fact, the product quality level of domestic excellent battery companies is not inferior to that of Japanese and Korean batteries. In order to occupy the market, Korean battery companies use low prices to attract domestic car companies to purchase. A company official revealed to the author that if the company's products do not use low-cost Korean batteries and competitors use them, the products will have a price disadvantage. It can be seen from Samsung SDI's financial statements that for several years, Samsung SDI's power lithium battery business has been in a state of loss.

Some industry insiders told the author that Samsung SDI is backed by the Samsung consortium, so it is not afraid of losses for several years; while domestic battery companies are relatively weak and cannot afford consecutive losses. This financial strength determines that domestic battery companies are at a disadvantage in market competition.

At present, the trend of domestic automobile companies choosing Japanese and Korean brand batteries is becoming more and more obvious. As far as the author knows, several major automobile groups and Japanese and Korean battery companies are negotiating to form a joint venture. The spread of this trend will bring two evil consequences. One is that domestic auto companies have become inert and lack the motivation and desire to actively master the core battery technology; the other is to squeeze the market space of domestic battery companies.

From the perspective of market competition, it is understandable that domestic automobile companies choose Japanese and Korean batteries from the perspective of their own interests; from the perspective of the development of the automobile industry, the large-scale use of Japanese and Korean batteries by domestic automobile companies will lead to hollowing out the core technology of new energy vehicles in my country.

Some people may say that Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Volkswagen are all choosing batteries from other countries, and they are not worried that they have not mastered the core technology, so why should we worry about it. But in fact, it's not. Not long ago, Volkswagen held a global battery tender, and several excellent battery companies in my country also bid.

Afterwards, an executive of a battery company told the author that Volkswagen held a bidding meeting to prepare for its own production of batteries, because global battery companies must submit a large amount of information and technical parameters for bidding. Volkswagen can evaluate these materials to determine. own technical route. Sure enough, soon after, it was rumored that Volkswagen would build a battery production plant.
